Adventure Training
HOW DOES IT WORK?
On arrival at our HQ near Towan Beach in Newquay, your service men and women will be divided into two teams and kitted out in top-quality Rip Curl wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and pro paddles. We’ll then head down to the launch point for a tutorial on the fundamentals of stand up paddling with one of our experienced and enthusiastic instructors.
We launch and land from two of Newquay’s lush, semi-secret coves. The start to experience is an adventure, as we walk down a rock path to the water’s edge. It’s worth it as the scenery is breath taking, there is some incredible coastal wildlife in the area, and you really are experiencing the best of Newquay’s coastal fringe. We take the walk down to the water slowly, the Super SUP will be waiting in the cove for you.
We will lead you through the challenging yet transferable skills of launching and landing, effective stand up paddling, steering & controlling the SUP, kneel paddling and beach safety awareness.
CONSOLIDATION OF NEW SKILLS
After the stand up paddleboard beach briefing, both teams are given the opportunity to build up their confidence by practicing what they’ve learnt on a point-to-point orienteering exercise. It will not only help your troops get to grips with our super-sized SUPs, but it will test their team work, navigation and leadership skills.
On successful completion of the first objective, both teams will moor up for a series of physically demanding-yet-confidence-building set of fun games (Sumo SUP, King/Queen of the SUP, and Dizzy Stick).
THE FINAL BATTLE
Once both teams are fired up from the SUP games, we’ll make our way to centre stage where part three of our adventurous training exercise begins – the eagerly awaited sprint paddle race.
The first team to round the buoy and back is the winner. However, it’s not as simple as it sounds as teams are encouraged to ram, board and plunder the enemy craft whenever possible! To make it even more challenging, you can only continue in the race when all hands are back on deck. Get those sea legs ready and stay on board if you can! The race offers a perfect balance of physical exertion, endurance, teamwork and tenacity as one team attempts to outwit another.
