Newquay Activity Centre is now a certified SLSGB training centre offering NVBLQ lifeguarding courses and level 1 ISA Surf coach awards!

For years our team has pioneered the training of surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering instructors in Newquay, enhancing core qualifications with professional in-house tuition to build experience in all outdoor conditions. But NOW, as a new certified SLSGB training centre we will be offering NVBLQ lifeguarding and ISA surf coaching qualifications from the UK’s hub of surfing, Towan Beach!

Newquay Activity Centre Director, Rob Barber said, “We’ve always tried to lead by example, giving our instructors the highest level of additional training under the leadership of our head NAC coaches. But now, all water lovers can learn core lifeguarding and surfing coaching skills with full qualifications from the heart of our Activity Centre, located just above Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall.”

What are the courses?

NVBLQ Lifeguard award | £350

The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) has teamed up with Surf Life Saving Association Wales (SLSA) and Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB) to develop a new national standard for beach lifeguarding, the National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ).

Not only is the NVBLQ the preferred award of the RNLI, it will also be recognised and promoted by RLSS UK, SLS GB, SLSA Wales.

NVBLQ Course Pre-Requisites

Every candidate attending a NVBLQ course must:

  • Be 16-years-old or over at the time of the assessment
  • Have a good level of fitness
  • Surface dive to a depth of 1.5 metres
  • Tread water for two minutes
  • Climb out of deep water unaided and without steps
  • Be competent at swimming in the sea
  • Be able to swim 400m in less than eight minutes

 

The SLSGB Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Award | £250

For those looking to obtain a surf coach qualification and get arguably the best job in the world, Surf Lifesaving GB has created the Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Award, a qualification combining the skills of lifeguarding with those of the ISA Level 1 surf-coaching qualification. With this award from our certified SLSGB Training Centre under your belt you’ll be able to apply for surf coaching jobs all over the UK and Europe. (£225 for SLSGB members) 

SPECIAL OFFER – Level 1 ISA Surf Coach Award | £300

For those who already hold a full beach lifeguard qualification, we’re teaming up with Surf Coach Academy this October to run an ISA Level 1 Surf Coach Award, a two day intensive course that’ll equip you with the necessary skills for professional surf coaching. 

Who will be running the courses? 

Mark Kelly will be heading up this training course and is a multi qualified, highly experienced and active practitioner in both land and water sports. As a trainer and assessor of Beach Lifeguarding and first aid qualifications for both The Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) and Surf Lifesaving Great Britain (SLSGB), Mark delivers coaching, guiding, instructing and training in several disciplines.
