The Cornish coast will play host to an Ultimate Coasteering Challenge this July as a highly skilled crew of coasteering experts take on a challenge of a lifetime.

In raising money for Help The Heroes, Newquay Activity Centre’s elite coasteering team will embark on a unique coasteering challenge that will see 8 men, sea swim, traversing cliff’s, jump and rock climbing from the St. Agnes to Newquay Harbour. Covering a staggering 24km of ocean and cliff face, the challenge will test their fitness, stamina and determination in a brave challenge.

The coasteering crew have set a time period of 31 July to 1 August in which to begin on the challenge and will jump in when the ocean conditions are perfect.

Pioneering the Ultimate Coasteer Challenge, professional surfer and coasteering expert Johnny Fryer said ‘we spend our days asking people to challenge themselves at the activity centre so we thought it was about time that we also challenged ourselves. At Newquay Activity Centre we work with large military groups who come from all over the UK to under go force development and Adventurous Training in different environments. So it seemed only natural that we set ourselves this mission. It will be tough as some parts are unknown coastal territory for us, but it will be equally exciting and it will be painful! We are raising money for the Military heroes who have been wounded in British conflicts. We will also be supporting the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Surfers Against Sewage. We would be most grateful for your support, that can be shown by donating  our Just Giving Page (search Ultra Coasteer) or by cheering us on on any part of the route’

The Ultimate coasteering route will start at 5am and will estimate to take 9 hours.

Friends and families have already made plans to follow the crew on land and sea, offering to join them on parts of their challenge and paddle surfboards nearby in a show of support.  Newquay Activity Centre Director Rob Barber commented ’this is one epic challenge, these men have strong knowledge of that part of the coast, have years of coastal and tidal experience and most of all, the fitness and determination to take this on, all at the Newquay Activity Centre are proud of them for taking on this challenge in the interests of helping out charities’
