HOW DO LIFEGUARD TRIALS WORK?

Our Lifeguard Trials are neatly divided into two fun sessions consisting of three overall activities with a halfway break for lunch.

THE MORNING SESSION

On arrival at the Newquay Activity Centre, your pupils will be kitted out in top-quality Rip Curl wetsuits from the comfort of our on-site heated changing rooms. Once all kitted up, our team of friendly lifeguard-qualified instructors will lead your pupils down to the beach where they’ll deliver some fundamental life saving skill lessons. These skills are an existing part of the internationally recognised beach lifeguard training course SLSGB. The session will be pitched at a suitable level to suit the dynamic of your class.

After some fun warm-ups and friendly hello’s, your students will set out to learn the following skills that are delivered through fun competitions and enjoyable challenges:

  • Board rescues
  • Tube rescues
  • Rescuing an unconscious casualty
  • Dealing with a 1st response casualty
  • Identifying rip currents & tackling waves
  • Basic first aid skills

THE AFTERNOON SESSION

Depending on the tide, your class’s preference of adrenaline and their area of interest, we’ll work with them to find the perfect afternoon of eco coasteering. Imagine clambering through old smugglers’ caves, climbing up rocks & traversing cliffs.  Watching incredible marine life in its natural habitat, negotiating natural rapids and enjoying whirlpools before attempting adrenaline-fuelled sea cliff jumps; that’s what coasteering is all about!

Whilst enjoying the fun of our epic coasteering route, your pupils will safely-yet-suddenly be thrown into a mock rescue scenario! Once the instructor gives the call, they will need to cast their mind back to the mornings lesson and devise a rescue and evacuation plan for their staged casualty. They must think on their feet and assess the situation to prove they’ve got what it takes to overcome the challenges facing them and their crew.

As well as counting on each other, the pupils will also be able to call in the aid of our nearby super SUP to help get their casualty to safety. Once free of the crags and cliffs and with a successful rescue under their belts, they will have the chance to explore the coast using their new rescue craft.

The kids will learn how to paddle effectively and how to work as a team to navigate this giant stand up paddle board around the dramatic coastline of Newquay. They can use this super-sized floating platform of fun as a base to run, jump, splash and paddle their way through the crystal-clear waters before returning back to base.
