LEARNING THE FUNDAMENTALS
Our travelling HQ (the Newquay Activity Centre van) will provide a nomadic base from which your group will receive their kayak and snorkel equipment along with a full safety briefing. Set up on the banks of the estuary, you will admire a backdrop of stunning scenery whilst kitting up in a Rip Curl wetsuit, buoyancy aid and rash vest.
After grabbing a paddle and a kayak, your experienced instructor will lead you in the basics of paddle strokes, kit familiarity, water safety and signals – finishing with a short warm-up before heading down to the water.
Our Snorkel Kayak tours are inclusive, enjoyable and suitable for all abilities. Your instructor will also run through the basics of snorkelling, how to clean your mask, how to use your equipment correctly and what to look out for underwater.
UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT
Learn to kayak on the peaceful tranquility of Newquay’s tidal estuary. Flow with the tide as you pick up basic paddling techniques under the watchful eyes of your guided instructor. Discover the natural beauty of this site of special interest, breathe in and take a moment to appreciate the calming atmosphere.
WHAT LIES BENEATH
Snorkelling’s not just for the ocean. The abundant wildlife of the Gannel make it a fascinating and unique place to explore below the surface. Discover crabs and mullet and look for the giant Gobi that inhabits the reeds at Penpol Creek.
After leaving Penpol Creek, you’ll head downstream and moor your kayak at the site of a local shipwreck. Wearing snorkelling masks, you’ll dive off your kayak and explore the spooky remains of this sunken boat. Climb back up the mooring and onto your kayak before paddling upstream with your expert instructor.
SOAK IN THE VIEWS
Take some time to appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the Gannel on the return leg of your snorkelling adventure. Admire blue lagoons sparkling by sandy bays, and don’t forget to look up as sweeping views of rolling green hills provide an incredible backdrop to your day.
