The Newquay Activity Centre’s legendary charity coasteer which took place on New Year’s Eve raised £500 for the Royal British Legion.

Over 20 people participated, arriving at Newquay Activity Centre at midday to get kitted out in coasteering equipment before embarking on an end of year Cornish ocean adventure

The winter sun shone on the New Year Coasteerers as they began their descent on the old life boat slip near little fistral beach. The high tide and mild weather provided the coasteering group with perfect conditions as they embraced the winter swell to explore the Cornish coastline, jumping off the cliff, sea swimming, glimpsing at caves, caverns and experiencing whirlpools hidden from land-dwellers.

Winter coasteering is a unique experience as the winter conditions lend themselves to a very exceptional coasteering event, Newquay Activity Centre director Rob Barber explains ‘whilst advancement’s in winter wetsuits means that you’re kept toasty and warm, winter coasteering gives you a real sense of achievement, as you brave the winter elements and step out of your comfort zone. Whatever the weather it can be glorious winter sunshine or icy rain but we can guarantee that coasteering will leave you feeling energised and invigorated. It was a really great way to start the New Year and we are so pleased to have raised £500 to such a great charity”
