LEARN TO STAND UP PADDLE BOARD!

With the correct safety advice and instruction, stand up paddle boarding is quick and easy to learn. First, our instructors teach you the basics, then the tour sets off with a unique and relaxing paddle along the scenic Gannel Estuary. Most of our SUP groups begin paddling on their knees, advancing to a stand up position when they feel safe and confident to do so.

Our River Snorkel & SUP Tour has been designed to teach you many core skills including how to launch and land, stand up and balance, hold your paddle, perform basic strokes and how to make directional changes.

There is absolutely no pressure on our River SUP & Snorkel Tour; feel free to enjoy the session from the comfort of your board, or give standing up a go – it’s entirely up to you! Our experienced instructors are there to help whatever your skill level may be.

SUP ON THE RIVER GANNEL IN NEWQUAY

Usually associated with warmer ocean waters, the excitement of river snorkelling can often be overlooked. With so many diverse habitats and underwater mysteries, just grab a mask and see what lies beneath! You don’t need to have any previous diving or snorkelling experience.

Take in the vibrant greens of rolling hills, the inviting golden sand banks and the dazzling emerald blue water as you glide along one of Newquay’s most relaxing routes for stand up paddle boarding.

Our River SUP & Snorkel Tours are ideal for beginners, your instructor will guide you through all the basics of stand up paddle boarding. After an in-depth safety brief on the banks of the river, you’re ready to put those skills into practice!

RIVER SNORKELLING – WHAT YOU’LL DISCOVER

Leave the river bank behind and embark on this peaceful, low intensity tour. Paddle across the calming river water under your instructor’s guidance. Discover the beauty of the estuary while identifying Gannel river wildlife, UK wading birds, and flora & fauna.

You’ll then moor up your SUP, grab a snorkel mask and discover what lies beneath the river’s surface. Explore the Gannel’s fascinating wildlife habitat as you search for fish including crab, mullet and sea bass – you may even encounter the giant gobi that inhabits the reeds at Penpol Creek!

And for history fans, we’ve got a little bonus for you! Head downstream and moor up your SUP at the site of a river shipwreck. Dive into the depths and see if you can find it. As the water becomes clearer, you’ll see the spooky remains of a sunken boat. Using the boat’s buoy and rope to climb back to the surface, enjoy a leisurely wild river swim before paddling back to your starting point.

With safety at the forefront of our lessons, we must advise that children under the age of 8 are welcome to SUP with us but they should be accompanied by an adult and book onto a private or family group tour.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS EXTREME WEATHER?

We are super fortunate to operate many of our activities in the shelter of Towan beach. We choose the tide and weather times that deliver the very best conditions for Stand Up Paddleboard Tours. However, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and sometimes she may have different plans for us. We always check the forecasted conditions but if the wind or swell picks up unexpectedly, we may need to change the time or location of your tour. Alternatively, we can move your booking onto a different activity, safe from unsuitable or dangerous SUP conditions.

Over 95% of our tours go ahead unaffected by the weather but, in the unlikely event that this does happen, we have excellent back-up options for you to choose from. If we need to amend your stand up paddle board booking due to adverse weather, we will let you know in advance. (No need to call us). We appreciate your understanding.
