Our Family Surf Lessons offer a private group experience and we welcome children from the age of 3 years and upwards. All children under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the activity. Our Family Surf Lessons are memorable, exhilarating, safe and fun for kids of all ages. Not only are they a sure way to get the kids off their mobile phones, they are comparatively low cost compared to other family outings in the South West. Our Newquay surfing school’s Family Surf Lessons offer an experience that will be remembered forever.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
At the Newquay Activity Centre’s Cornwall Surfing School, we offer two-hour private surfing lessons designed specifically just for you and your family. Here you will learn the fundamentals of surfing, ocean awareness, beach safety, surfing equipment and surfing terminology. We provide the perfect balance of fun, education and safety.
What’s more, imagine how cool you’ll become when your children return to school with tall tales of surfing adventures!
We’ll teach you how to catch your first wave, how to stand up and how to ride white water breakers right to the beach. Our team of highly experienced and Surf England qualified instructors offer supervision and guidance throughout your lessons, so you learn quickly and safely in your own time. Just like our other beginner lessons, our Family Surf Lessons take place in waist-deep water to maintain a safe and sensible approach to learning.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE FAMILY SURF LESSONS?
Having full access to our heated changing rooms, you will be issued with comfortable and stylish Rip Curl wetsuits to change into. We also have secure lockers to store your clothes and valuables while you’re in the ocean.
We hold a range of equipment for all ages and sizes and use premium quality Swell foam surfboards for all our beginner sessions. These offer the most stable platform on which to learn. We guarantee the very best equipment of any of Cornwall’s surfing schools.

OUR EXPERTISE
Our Newquay Surf School is the longest longest running, launched in 1996. Drawing from his experience as the British and English Surfing Team Coach, each surf lesson package has been bespoke designed by company Founder, Rob Barber, to cater for beginner surfers and those more experienced surfers.
We have 3 sister companies, Women + Waves, Bodyboard-Holidays and Outdoor Activity Instructor Academy.
Our Newquay Activity Centre surf instructors pass through a 3 month long training course prior to starting work with us, in order to deliver our surf lessons. With over 200,000 guests passing through the centre, more than any other surf school in the UK, our experience has been gained organically and reflects in our endless positive results. Our surfing instructors complete their Beach Lifeguard Qualification (or equivalent), their International Surfing Association qualification but notably also undergo ongoing in-house training designed by company founder and previous British and English Surfing team coach, Rob Barber.
