For years our team has pioneered the training of surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering instructors in Newquay, enhancing core qualifications with professional in-house tuition to build experience in all outdoor conditions. But NOW, as a new certified SLSGB training centre we will be offering NVBLQ beach lifeguarding and ISA surf coaching qualifications from the UK’s hub of surfing, Towan Beach Newquay!
The national vocational beach lifeguarding qualification (NVBLQ) is the new international standard of beach lifeguarding, endorsed by the International Life-Saving Federation and Surf Lifesaving Great Britain.
This is the minimum qualification required for application into the RNLI and requires competent swimming skills with a high level of fitness.
You will be tested throughout the week in a timed pool swim and final scenario-based skills assessment.
You must be 16 years old or over, able to swim 400m in under eight minutes, have experience of board paddling and sea swimming, be able to swim a 25 meter length underwater in a pool followed by a 25 meter sprint in under 50 seconds and have good all round levels of fitness.
You do not need specific lifeguarding experience prior to the course. However, previous water experience will prove invaluable when tackling essential lifeguarding tasks and learning new techniques. Pivotal lifeguarding equipment like rescue boards and Peterson Tubes can take a little while to get used too. This course will set you up for any ocean-based vocation and our other surf instructing and lifeguarding courses in Newquay.
- Foundation Ocean Board Rescuer
