EPIC KAYAKING ADVENTURES

As Tripadvisors number one provider of outdoor water sport activities in Newquay, our expert staff know the nooks and crannies of this coastline like the back of their hands. Your instructors will use their extensive experience to navigate this area and lead you on the most rewarding kayak adventure in Newquay!

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You’ll first be taught the safety and fundamentals of kayaking at our activity centre near Towan beach. We are ideally situated only a 5-minute walk from Towan headland as well as being close to some awesome gulleys, inlets and sheltered coves. Our purpose-designed centre has heated changing rooms, hot outdoor showers, storage space and lockers for your valuables. Our centre is warm and safe – the perfect place to get changed in before you embark on your kayak adventure in Newquay!

You will be kitted up with a Rip Curl wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and paddle at our HQ. After this, your expert kayak instructor will lead you in the basics of paddle strokes, kit familiarity, water safety and signals – finishing with a short warm-up before heading down to the water.

We launch and land from two of Newquay’s lush, semi-secret coves. The start to experience is an adventure, as we walk down a rock path to the water’s edge. It’s worth it as the scenery is breath taking, there is some incredible coastal wildlife in the area, and you really are experiencing the best of Newquay’s coastal fringe. We take the walk down to the water slowly, the kayaks will be waiting in the cove for you.

We pride ourselves in sharing a well-rounded learning experience, which will on many tours see you given the opportunity to experience both a double and single kayak. If you start in a double kayak but want to try a single, we swap mid-way on either one of the secret beaches that we visit or in the ocean environment. We cannot guarantee that you will have a single or a double kayak for the duration of the tour. But will have the opportunity to experience both, or one or the other.

From here the safari will move at the group’s pace stopping at areas of interest for discussions, to answer any questions and to play games!

Kayaking offers a different perspective from which to experience this epic stretch of coastline. You’ll paddle along the tidal zone exploring secret bays like Adventure Gulley and Dead Mans Cove (also popular for adrenaline-fuelled coasteering) which are tucked away from the paths above!

WILL WE SEE ANY WILDLIFE?

The Gazzle’s deep caves were once used by pirates and smugglers which means they are now steeped in a rich history, as well as playing host to native wildlife of all shapes and sizes. Inquisitive seals may even pop their heads up to say hello as you paddle past!

WHY CHOOSE KAYAKING LESSONS WITH NEWQUAY ACTIVITY CENTRE?

Kayaking is an interesting, adventurous and relaxing way to spend your spare time on the ocean. Coastlines up and down the country hold epic history and intense stories that just aren’t accessible from dry land. If you’d like to experience such an adventure, booking a kayak lesson and tour with Newquay Activity Centre is a fantastic place to start.

Our experienced coaches will be with you all the way to teach you the skills and safety lessons you need to know.

ARE YOU THINKING OF GOING SOLO WITH A NEW KAYAK?

If you’re thinking of investing in your own kayak, our instructors are the go-to guys for any advice or tips on finding the best equipment. They work with top quality kit every day so after your lesson and tour, be sure to find out what’s worth investing in. Check out our Sea Kayak blog to understand the importance of trying before you buy.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS EXTREME WEATHER?

We are super fortunate to operate many of our activities in the shelter of Towan beach. We choose the tide and weather times that deliver the very best conditions for Kayak Tours. However, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and sometimes she may have different plans for us. We always check the forecasted conditions but if the wind or swell picks up unexpectedly, we will move your session on to our Super SUPs, this will ensure you still cover the same route and session content but will be on a craft that is more resilient against the conditions. Alternatively, we may offer a different time or location for your tour.

Over 95% of our tours go ahead unaffected by the weather but, in the unlikely event that this does happen, we have excellent back-up options for you to choose from. We appreciate your understanding.
