All of our instructors are ISA level 1 qualified or above and lifeguard trained, but most importantly they are passionate about surfing, the ocean and giving you the best surfing experience in the area. We take our coaching seriously; we are not a ‘surf shepherding’ outfit, we see your surf lesson as the beginning of a journey. By giving you the right foundations, first rate instruction and equipment that you’ll develop into a capable surfer over time with us.  It really can be  a life changing journey!

IAM bands

In accordance with our ethos of leading you on a surfing journey, we have teamed up with

In addition to one off Taster surfing lesson, we also offer a range of packages, including multiple lessons, private lessons and great group discounts – we’re a one-stop shop for your surfing progression!  If you book a surfing lesson with us, we also offer you a discount on other activities including SUP, Coasteer, Kayak, Bodyboarding and other coastal adventures.

The Newquay Centre is ideally situated on at Towan Beach offering access to some of Cornwall’s best surfing beaches. We run the majority of our lessons at Newquay extremely user friendly and safe Towan Beach. We are privileged to 350+ days of surf each year, and so only have to postpone 2 – 3 lessons a year. And if the waves are too small at Towan Beach we can find bigger waves on the other side of the Peninsula and surf the fun waves of Fistral beach.

Our centre comes with clean heated changing rooms, ample locker space for valuables, a hot shower and a base for your gear if you are down for the day. We are also just a short stroll from the centre of town and its abundance of great eateries and surf shops (many of which offer our guests a discount – you’ll be supplied a card after your lesson in order to redeem it).

The right equipment

We believe that to really learn to surf, you must have the right equipment from day one.

Too often we see guys and girls learning to surf on boards unsuitable for their level, height, weight and the waves. Yes, the board might look cool under their arm but makes for no fun when they are unable to ‘catch a wave’ or ‘pop up to their feet’. We don’t just give you any old surfboard to ride; we choose one that is most suitable for you. So the first step is to determine what size board fits your height, size and surfing experience level.

For our beginner lessons we are committed to using Swell boards for our new surfers. Though more expensive to other beginner boards, they offer unrivalled stability and buoyancy. Super stable boards, though not the coolest in the quiver, are much easier to paddle, will get you into waves quicker, and are made of soft foam for safety.

What’s more, at the end of each season we are able to re-skin the boards, and so we’re not sending old boards to landfill.

For a pre-intermediate rider we offer three stages of progresser surfboards, which you can experiment with.  The best board is the one you’re having the most fun on!

What’s more, the Newquay Activity Centre is the only surf school in the area to offer an exclusive range of children’s boards.

We are proudly sponsored by Rip Curl, a leader in surfing equipment, apparel and wetsuits, for achieving above and beyond in our industry. And so all our clients are suited up in top of the range, warm and comfortable wetsuits. Being warm and comfortable in the water enables you to concentrate on and really enjoy your surfing.
