Our local instructors live and breathe this surf town. Whether you’re hitting the waves for the first time or exploring the coast on a coasteering adventure, here’s our guide to making the most of your visit to Newquay, Cornwall’s adventure capital.
Start your day with a surf lesson with us at one of Newquay Beaches – it’s perfect for beginners and a great way to get familiar with the Atlantic Ocean. After your session, stroll through Newquay’s vibrant town centre, grab a pasty from a local bakery, and follow the coastal path out towards the Headland Hotel for stunning sea views. End your day with a clifftop sunset over Fistral Beach.
Head off the beaten path to discover the Gannel Estuary at high tide – ideal for stand-up paddleboarding and peaceful wildlife spotting. Or check out Crantock Beach for a quieter stretch of sand away from the crowds. For a dose of local history, the Huer’s Hut offers panoramic views and stories of Newquay’s fishing past.
You can get a taste of Newquay in a weekend, but we recommend three to four days to really enjoy a mix of surf lessons, coasteering, sea kayaking, and downtime on the beach. Warning! Many of our visitors enjoy it so much here, they never leave!
Fresh seafood is a must – think crab sandwiches, mussels, and fish and chips by the harbour. Don’t miss out on a classic Cornish pasty and be sure to try some locally made ice cream or a cream tea (jam first, of course). For casual eats, check out Newquay’s beach bars and food shacks with a sea view.
May to September is prime adventure season, with warm waters, sunshine, and great surf. July and August are the busiest, so for quieter waves and still-gorgeous weather, visit in late spring or early autumn. Coasteering and surfing run year-round thanks to our expert gear and instructors.
Towan Headland is the heart of Newquay’s surf scene – home to the iconic Cribbar wave and the perfect lookout for spotting dolphins. It’s also where you’ll find some of our coasteering routes, winding through sea caves and natural plunge pools.
Newquay’s harbour area is perfect for seafood lovers, with spots like The Boathouse offering harbourfront dining with live music. For vegan and veggie options, head to Fore Street and Beach Road. And if you’re craving post-surf carbs, there’s no shortage of epic pizza and burger joints.
The high street has a great mix of surf shops, local boutiques, and Cornish brands. Pop into the independent shops around Bank Street for handcrafted jewellery, ocean-inspired art, and beachwear. If you forgot your wetsuit or need a surfboard upgrade, our surf hire options have you covered too.
Stay central for easy access to Newquay’s beaches, our activity centre, and great food and nightlife. For a quieter stay, look around Pentire for sea views and cliffside walks. Families love staying near Lusty Glaze or Porth for calmer beaches and kid-friendly vibes. We have accommodation for rent both centrally on Fore Street and at Pentire Headland.
