Learn To Stand Up Paddle Board!

With the correct safety advice and instruction, stand up paddle boarding is quick and easy to learn. First, our instructors teach you the basics, then the tour sets off with a unique and relaxing private paddle around Newquay’s scenic coastline. Most of our Family SUP Lessons begin paddling on their knees, advancing to a stand up position when they feel safe and confident to do so.

Our Family SUP Lessons have been designed to teach you many core skills including how to launch and land, stand up and balance, hold your paddle, perform basic strokes and how to make directional changes.

There is absolutely no pressure on our Family SUP Tours; feel free to enjoy the session kneeling down on the comfort of your board, or give standing up a go – it’s entirely up to you! Our experienced instructors are there to help whatever your skill level may be.

What Is The Family Sup Activity?

Newquay Activity Centre is Tripadvisor’s number one provider of water sport adventures in Newquay. We are lucky to have a world-class team of expert instructors and we have been operating in Newquay for over 20 years.

You’ll get kitted up at our HQ, located just a short walk from Towan Beach, where we will provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles for the whole family within our heated changing facilities. Then, after a full safety briefing and lesson in fundamental SUP skills, you’ll launch your boards from the sheltered sands and head out around our coastline.

We launch and land from two of Newquay’s lush, semi-secret coves. The start to experience is an adventure, as we walk down a rock path to the water’s edge. It’s worth it as the scenery is breath taking, there is some incredible coastal wildlife in the area, and you really are experiencing the best of Newquay’s coastal fringe. We take the walk down to the water slowly, the paddleboards will be waiting in the cove for you.

Our Family SUP Lessons are for families and groups of all skill levels and abilities. You don’t need to have any prior experience; our highly qualified instructors are masters in teaching people of all ages.

Getting Kids Active Along Newquay’s Coastline

The deck of your individual stand up paddleboard is the perfect way to view our beautiful coastline! Not only is the scenery amazing, your family will also get up close and personal to Newquy’s cliff line. If the seas are calm, you will be paddling into caves and caverns that once played host to real pirates and smugglers. History comes alive on our family SUP adventures!

As well as delivering useful tips throughout the tour, our instructors are equipped with epic stories of Newquay’s dramatic history. This is definitely one to get the kids’ imaginations working overtime!

Stand up paddle boarding is fun to learn and addictive to master. Once equipped with the basic skills of balancing, paddling and maneuvering, the coastline opens up as a brand new aquatic playground.

What Happens If There Is Extreme Weather?

We are super fortunate to operate many of our activities in the shelter of Towan beach. We choose the tide and weather times that deliver the very best conditions for Stand Up Paddleboard Tours. However, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and sometimes she may have different plans for us. We always check the forecasted conditions but if the wind or swell picks up unexpectedly, we will move your session on to our Super SUPs, this will ensure you still cover the same route and session content but will be on a craft that is more resilient against the conditions. Alternatively, we may offer a different time or location for your tour.

Over 95% of our tours go ahead unaffected by the weather but, in the unlikely event that this does happen, we have excellent back-up options for you to choose from. We appreciate your understanding.
