Strengthening Local Ties Through Adventure and Collaboration

Last week, our Director Rob Barber was invited to attend the Station Commander’s Annual Reception at RAF St Mawgan – an event we’ve been honoured to be invited to for the past six years.

The evening brought together military personnel, local business leaders and community partners from across the South West. Hosted on base by the RAF, the reception recognised the contribution of civilian organisations to the wellbeing and development of armed forces personnel.

As the region’s preferred provider of adventurous training, Newquay Activity Centre was personally thanked for our ongoing support of RAF training and team-building programmes.

Supporting RAF St Mawgan Through Outdoor Training

Over the past year, we’ve delivered a wide range of bespoke, high-quality outdoor sessions to RAF St Mawgan and associated units – including surfing, coasteering, paddleboarding, and sea-based challenges. These activities help develop resilience, leadership, and group cohesion in a physically demanding, yet safe and enjoyable environment.

Being recognised for that contribution was a proud moment for our team.

An Evening of Recognition and Future Opportunity

The evening opened with drinks, canapés and conversation, followed by a keynote address from Station Wing Commander Helen Simpson, who spoke about the growing importance of collaboration between the military and local businesses.

She praised the role of organisations like Newquay Activity Centre in helping RAF personnel train, recover and build confidence through outdoor experiences.

The evening concluded with a traditional ceremonial lowering of the flag – The Retreat – carried out by RAF cadets in full parade formation.

Looking Ahead

We’re incredibly proud of our connection with RAF St Mawgan and the wider military community. We are committed to providing inclusive, adventurous training to military personnel based in Cornwall and across the UK.

We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with RAF St Mawgan into 2025 and beyond.
