Honoured to Attend RAF St Mawgan’s Annual Reception 2026

Honoured to Attend RAF St Mawgan’s Annual Reception 2026

Strengthening our continued partnership with RAF St Mawgan

In mid May 2026, our Director Rob Barber was once again invited to attend the Station Commander’s Annual Reception at RAF St Mawgan. It is an event we have now been honoured to be invited to for the past seven years, and one that continues to mean a great deal to everyone at Newquay Activity Centre.

The evening brought together military personnel, local business leaders and community partners from across the South West. Hosted on base by the RAF, the reception recognised the contribution of civilian organisations that support the wellbeing, development and training of Armed Forces personnel.

For Newquay Activity Centre, it was a proud reminder of the strong relationship we have built with RAF St Mawgan over many years.

Recognised for our adventurous training support

As the region’s preferred provider of adventurous training, Newquay Activity Centre was personally thanked for our ongoing support of RAF training and team-building programmes.

Our work with RAF St Mawgan and associated military groups focuses on much more than simply getting people in the sea. Through activities such as surfing, coasteering, paddleboarding and sea-based challenges, we help create shared experiences that build confidence, resilience, leadership and group cohesion.

These sessions are physically challenging, but they are also safe, supportive and inclusive. Whether we are working with serving personnel, family groups or wider military teams, the aim is always the same – to use Cornwall’s coastline as a powerful outdoor learning environment.

A long-standing connection with the Armed Forces

Newquay Activity Centre has worked with military groups for many years, delivering bespoke coastal activity programmes designed around each group’s goals. Some sessions focus on adventurous training and personal development. Others support team bonding, welfare, confidence building and time away from the pressures of service life.

Being recognised at RAF St Mawgan’s Annual Reception was a proud moment for Rob and for the wider team behind the scenes.

It is easy to see the activities on the beach, in the water or along the cliffs. What people do not always see is the planning, safety management, instructor training and logistical support that goes into delivering high-quality military programmes. That is where our team takes great pride.

An evening of recognition and community

The reception itself was a brilliant opportunity to catch up with familiar faces, meet new people and reflect on the importance of strong local partnerships.

The evening brought together organisations from across the community who support RAF St Mawgan in different ways. It was a reminder that the relationship between the RAF and local businesses is not just practical – it is personal.

These partnerships help strengthen the link between the base, its personnel and the wider Cornish community.

The evening concluded in traditional military style, with the formal lowering of the flag, known as The Retreat, led by a parade of RAF cadets. It was a fitting end to a memorable evening.

Looking ahead

We are massively grateful for the continued support shown by RAF St Mawgan and proud to play our part in their adventurous training and team development.

Our connection with the military community continues to be an important part of who we are. From RAF St Mawgan adventurous training to wider Armed Forces activity programmes, we remain committed to delivering professional, meaningful and memorable outdoor experiences on the Cornish coast.

We look forward to continuing our work with RAF St Mawgan for many years to come.
