TOWAN HEADLAND
From the comfort of our heated changing rooms, you’ll be kitted up in a toasty warm Rip Curl wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and snorkel. You’ll then join one of our experienced instructors to launch our super SUP board into the crystal-clear waters around Towan Headland. This rocky playground holds an array of nooks, crannies, caves and caverns to explore. You’ll navigate the board in and around these old smugglers hideouts whilst hearing the historic tales that echo this fascinating past.
We launch and land from two of Newquay’s lush, semi-secret coves. The start to experience is an adventure, as we walk down a rock path to the water’s edge. It’s worth it as the scenery is breath taking, there is some incredible coastal wildlife in the area, and you really are experiencing the best of Newquay’s coastal fringe. We take the walk down to the water slowly, the Super SUP will be waiting in the cove for you.
Our Snorkel Super SUP Safari has been designed to teach you many core skills including how to launch and land, stand up and balance, hold your paddle, perform basic strokes and how to make directional changes as a team. It’s natural to begin your Snorkel Super SUP Safari kneeling down on the board, many people do. Our coaches are there to guide you step-by-step, helping you along the way. Within no time you will confidently progress from kneeling to standing; by the end of the lesson you’ll be a pro!
EXPLORATION STATIONS
After successfully navigating the aquatic landscape, your instructor will seek out an area to anchor down and dive a little deeper. Whilst moored up, the SUP becomes a diving board from which to leap into the water in a series of games and competitions! Winners (and losers!) established, it’s time to be transported through the lense of your mask and witness the underwater marine ecosystem below as you explore this marine conservation area.
Experience the wonder as you gently survey a new underwater world full of fish, crabs, seals, starfish and lobsters. This is also a protected seahorse breeding site so keep your eyes open for some unique and magical friends!
CRIBBAR REEF
Just a stone’s throw from Towan Headland and Newquay Activity Centre is the Cribbar reef; a renowned big wave surf spot during the winter months. More often, though, the Cribbar is the tranquil home to a rich array of reef loving wildlife. There isn’t a better place on a calm sunny day to see Newquay’s rocky reef structure and incredible marine habitats.
DEAD MAN’S COVE
Paddle closer into the headland and you’ll be in the cove of Dead Man’s Cove, just 200metres along from the world famous Fistral Beach. It’s rock pools and lagoons host an abundance of miniature sea life, easily watched and examined with your instructor from your Super SUP! With the iconic Headland Hotel overlooking the snorkel site, it’s a view like no other when looking back towards land. Take a moment to appreciate the sights as you flip the classic ocean view on its head.

OUR EXPERTISE
While well known big wave surfers like Jamie O’Brien made the SUPsquatch or Monster SUP famous by catching huge waves in Hawaii, it was NAC who pioneered the craft for touring.
There was no such thing as a Super SUP tour, it was NAC’s brainchild. We even came up with the name Super SUP!
After launching the company in 1996, we have catered for over 200,000 guest experiences. It is guest feedback that helped us to create our Super SUP tours, Super SUP Coasteers, Super SUP snorkel tours and other bespoke experiences. We’re simply re creating what we have spent our lives doing on the Newquay coastline. Director Rob Barber shared his experiences of cave exploration, lagoon snorkelling and sluice ride paddling and the thousands of 5 star trip advisors have been the result.
Having pioneered the development of the Super SUP tour as an activity, and introducing it to the coastal activity market, we have now, using a hybrid of our coasteering and paddlesports training programmes successfully built a module which is delivered within our 3 month Outdoor Instructor Academy qualification.
