NAC helps RAF service families spend quality time together

As part of our commitment to supporting the military, on 1st and 2nd August we threw open our doors to the families of RAF St Mawgan and treated them to surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering sessions.  More than 50 people, including some as young as five, took up the offer and over £4,200 worth of activities were provided free of charge. The action-packed days coincided with the heatwave and fantastic waves so the conditions couldn’t have been better.

“Many of the men and women serving at RAF St Mawgan work tirelessly to protect our coastline yet they don’t have the time to enjoy it with their families,” comments Rob Barber, owner of Newquay Activity Centre. “I am constantly in awe of their dedication and commitment so to be able to organise this for them is just a small token of our appreciation.”

Flight Sergeant Simon Keeble from the RAF St Mawgan Community Support team adds: “Many of our service families have moved to Cornwall to be based at RAF St Mawgan so for some, it was the first time that they had been surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering. The impact that Rob and his team have made has been unmeasurable. It was amazing to see so many of our service families getting involved as a unit and inspired to spend more quality time together exploring what Cornwall has to offer.”

This is the fourth time that we have hosted the event and plans are already being made for the 2019 edition. In addition to this we also provide exclusive military discounts to all military personnel and are a lead sponsor of the Navy surf team, a supporter of the RAF Wave Riders and the Army surf team. We have also signed an official Armed Forces Covenant which marks our continued support for all military forces, veterans, reservists, regulars and their families. On top of this we also run Armed Forces Adventurous Training packages covering everything from kayaking and Super SUP to surf survivor and castaway challenges.
