Newquay Activity Centre, who are three times gold winners at the Cornwall Tourism Awards were presented with the GOLD award at The South West Tourism awards, naming them the best in the South West!

Held at the Aerospace in Bristol on 7th February 2019, 390 guests from the best businesses across the South West dined under the supersonic Concorde, where it now resides as a national icon. Many of the guests arrived early to take a look inside Concorde Alpha Foxtrot, the last Concorde to ever fly, and to celebrate the 50 years since Concorde’s maiden flight. And there was more adventure to kick off the award proceedings, with an introduction to the guest speaker of the awards night, Concorde pilot, captain Les Brodie. He shared this own tales of Concorde flight adventures and celebrity anecdotes from his days as at the helm of this amazing craft.

Bonita Norris kept the theme of brave adventure alive, by presenting an entertaining and personal account of climbing Everest. Bonita is the world’s youngest person to ever climb Everest and to reach the North Pole. So embarking on a coasteering adventure off the Cornish coast this spring should be a breeze for Bonita and Newquay Activity Centre team invite both Bonita and Les for some proper Cornish ocean adventures this year!

And with the speeches over it was straight into the awards proceedings and with ocean adventure in their hearts, Newquay Activity Centre were ecstatic to be presented with the GOLD award in their sporting and experience category.

Les Brodie presented the award to Rob Barber Director of Newquay Activity Centre. Rob said ‘It has been one of our goals for the past couple of years to get the GOLD South West Tourism Awards as we have come so close to winning gold several times and we have narrowly missed out but this year WE DID IT! and the team so rightly deserve it. We are brilliant at what we do, mainly because we love what we do, everyday. We get to take people out on the Cornish Coast whether its learning to surf or adventuring around the caves and coastline on a SUPER SUP, encountering seals and other wildlife, or embarking on a heritage Coasteer learning about smugglers and cave exploration. We have lots of adventures and we’ve worked hard to increase our activities so there is something for everyone, whilst also specialising in our core activities in both Surfing and Bodyboarding. We invest in excellent training and employ the best team to deliver our activities throughout the whole year. I also have my team to thank for constantly delivering excellent experiences for our guests and sharing their passion for what they do!

I would also like to thank ad media for sponsoring our category, Robin Barker for masterminding the awards and South West Water for sponsoring the overall event and for also working hard to keep our Cornish sea clean”

Newquay Activity Centre which is based on the beach at Towan Beach in Newquay, offer guests a range of ocean activities including Surfing, Bodyboarding, Super Sup, kayak, coasteering, archery, bushcraft, snorkelling and beach games. They are open all year round.
