This summer Newquay’s very own Boardmasters Festival is back. We’ve never felt the festival spirit more, and can’t wait to get back to having a boogie on the clifftops of Watergate bay!
After the winter we have had, I think we are all deserving of a party, and what better place for one than on the beautiful North Cornish coastline? Picture it now- the sun is setting, live music is playing, you are surrounded by friends with a cider in hand. We can’t wait!
Between 9-13 August, Watergate and Fistral are hosting five days of live music, amazing surfing and delicious food and drink. Here at Newquay Activity Centre, we are official sponsors of the event, which is welcoming huge acts to the cliff tops of Watergate bay. Over three nights, Boardmasters will host headliners Foals on the Friday, Gorillaz on the Saturday and Jorja Smith on the Sunday. These amazing acts will also be joined by a huge selection of other musicians and DJ’s, such as Sam Fender, Dizzee Rascal, The Kooks, Kano, Blossoms and Becky Hill.
The setting for Boardmasters could not be more picturesque- overlooking the wide expanse of ocean, you can party at one of eleven carefully curated stages that play host to a world of talent; ranging from local acoustic artists, to mind-bending visual performers, via world-class international headliners. See the stars at the Main Stage, lose yourself in the Unleashed tent, channel your independent spirit at The Land of Saints or party by the waves at The Point. Wherever you spend your night, you are sure to find top-notch music and a buzzing atmosphere.
Alongside the music, it’s also going to be a huge weekend for surfing. Down on Fistral beach will be the Boardmasters OPEN, with some of the best pro surfers going head to head in the UK’s biggest surf competition. This summer the event will host the Animal OPEN, BFGoodrich Longboard OPEN and new for 2023, the Mystic Junior OPEN. Head on down to the beach to see some of the best surfing in the country, right before your eyes. During the week, Fistral Beach also transforms into a vibrant surf village, featuring skate and BMX competitions, art installations, workshops, gigs, food stalls and clothing pop ups. Spend the day here soaking up the atmosphere before heading to the main venue to party into the night.
If you want to keep the celebrations going, Boardmasters are also hosting several after parties in Newquay town centre, inviting you to dance ’til dawn. As the sun starts to set in Newquay town, an array of curated venues will be hosting legendary after parties with an impressive lineup of DJs & performers including Shy FX, Stamina MC, MistaJam, Majestic and more recently announced Nathan Dawe, ANDY C, Tonn Piper MC, Charlie Hedges. Running from Thursday to Sunday at Berties, East St Newquay and Sailors, Fore St Newquay, these parties invite you to make the most of the weekend- we’ve waited long enough! New to this year are also two Boardmasters boat parties, taking you on a trip out to sea where the fun continues.
We don’t just love Boardmasters because they know how to throw a great party- although that’s definitely a large reason! They also have sustainability and the environment at the heart of what they do, and that’s something we at Newquay Activity Centre can deeply relate to. They support our local ecosystem in a variety of ways, from partnering with Surfer’s Against Sewage to launching litter bonds with weekend camping tickets. You won’t see any disposable cups at the main event- their reusable cup scheme means no plastic is needlessly going to waste. They continue to strive to improve their carbon footprint and expand the ways they give back to the environment, and we are with them on that front.
