Sharp’s Brewery from Rock, Cornwall, inspired by their Cornish roots, recently launched a unique competition to give their drinkers a chance to win an unforgettable Food & Beer Adventure.

And so on a balmy evening in May, six lucky couples were taken to a picturesque Cornish cove and met by our team of enthusiastic abseiling instructors, and Michelin Star chef Nathan Outlaw preparing a seafood feast.

A top a lush green craggy cliffs towering over the Atlantic breakers we kitted out the winners in safety helmets and harnesses and led them on an unforgettable abseiling adventure into the inaccessibly idyllic cove below, which one guest described as The Beach from Alex Garland’s popular 90s novel.

By the time the intrepid climbers were back up top, Nathan was putting the final touches to the meal that began with smoked mackerel & seaweed pate; seafood ceviche (barbecued prawns, scallops and lobster) with tomato, red onion and coriander; and a barbecued octopus salad with tomatoes, watercress and cucumber. The main course was barbecued monkfish, marinaded in potted shrimp spice and served with crushed new potatoes, grilled fennel and capers. Dessert was barbecued pineapple with meringue, spiced rum syrup and lime cream.

Nathan a leading advocate of combining fine dining with the best beers matched each course with a different beer from Sharp’s Brewery. Favourites included their biggest selling Doom Bar beer, their new Pilsner and Atlantic Pale Ale – a fruity ale packed with citrus flavours and sweet notes which worked exceptionally well with the seafood.

We’d eaten incredibly well, we’d drunk many excellent beers, discovered new ones, and we’d had a real abseiling adventure. Sharp’s Brewery had treated us to a once in a lifetime, money can’t buy experience, and I think we were all sad it was over.”

Marine Wildlife Cornwall.

Newquay Wildlife – 80 Marine Species Spotted While Coasteering in Cornwall!

On rare occasions throughout the year we get super low tides that recede a lot further than usual uncovering parts of this beautiful coastline that normally go unseen. Both the general public and CWT members were treated to a very special coasteer team that included Marine Awareness Officer Matt Slater and local Eco Coasteer legend Karl Fice-Thomson. Due to the extreme low tide it was predicted that an area already abundant in wildlife would prove extra special with rock pools and caves normally inaccessible a likely haven to different species.
