Here at Newquay Activity Centre we make conscious decisions to prevent waste, educate our customers and promote sustainable living. It’s our planet – let’s help to protect it.
We’re proud to partner with some of the best brands in the world. We make relationships in business like we do in our personal lives; based wholly around positive change. If you’re happy, healthy and protecting the environment around you – you’re our kind of person.
Our passion for the Earth comes from the time we spend living in its very power. The waves, the wind, the rain, the sun, the snow, the beauty; it’s all around us and we wouldn’t be able to operate without it. We know first-hand the benefits of a life outdoors, but unfortunately we’ve also seen the impacts of climate change throughout the years.
Mass production factories, greenhouse gases, warming oceans, melting ice caps, overfishing and under appreciating – these are all real world threats facing our planet in the 21st century. Thankfully though, there is still time to make a real difference.
We can all do our bit to help protect the planet. Recycle, re-use, shop local, be mindful of what we eat and, most importantly, save the trees. And that’s where one of our most important partnerships comes in…
NEWQUAY ACTIVITY CENTRE’S COLLABORATION WITH MOSSY EARTH
We’ve teamed up with eco warriors and real-world green-fingered superheroes Mossy Earth. These guys are on a mission to re-populate the planet’s trees in exceptionally important areas of the globe. Thanks to their ingenuity and hard work, Mossy Earth is helping to combat deforestation, prevent habitat extinction and turn the tide on collapsing global ecosystems.
HOW WE’RE INVOLVED
As part of our partnership and through the hard work of Mossy Earth’s guys on the ground, Newquay Activity Centre has pledged to plant 10 native trees every month. These will be across a variety of projects and ecosystems in parts of the world that have been highly affected by climate change.
The trees that we plant will provide a safe and secure habitat for an abundance of wildlife for many generations to come. Not only will they provide a safe haven for many native species, they will also help to remove harmful carbon from the atmosphere and replenish the oxygen levels that humans rely on.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Each of the ten trees that we plant will help to sequester more than 0.25 tonne of CO2. These trees will be planted at certain projects where the main aims are to restore ecosystems, promote biodiversity and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
The projects run by Mossy Earth are not solely interested in increasing the planet’s tree cover. They also look for areas that take the diversity and functionality of the species into account, as well as how the trees can provide certain ecosystem services. These can include soil stabilisation, water purification and also their role in providing a habitat for the local flora and fauna. Something we love to teach our customers about on our Low Tide Coasteer sessions.
EXTRA BENEFITS
As well as the amazing work outlined above, our funds will also help Mossy Earth carry out regular impactful rewilding projects around the globe. These projects are led by science and aim to have the ecological problem and the proposed solution backed entirely by scientific evidence.
To be suitable, the project must aim to achieve one or more of the following objectives that are central to the rewilding process:
- Restore key ecosystem processes
- Improve habitat integrity and connectivity
- Restore biodiversity and/or abundance of native species
- Reduce human influence on the landscape
They also favour rewilding projects that can demonstrate broader socio-economic and environmental benefits, such as:
- Provide greater economic value to local communities
- Prevent spread of invasive species, floods and soil degradation
- Result in increased carbon sequestration
Thankfully, you don’t have to be a business or an organisation to support Mossy Earth in their fight against climate change. If you’d like to get involved in any of the information above, please visit Mossy Earth’s Membership page and join the fight today.
