A Super Day For A Super SUP In Newquay – Exploring The Past
Vol 1 Part II
By James Fisher
Welcome to part two in this series of super SUP blogs where we’re looking back at some previously offered giant stand up paddle board sessions here at Newquay Activity Centre. Stand up paddle boarding is the world’s fastest growing water sport and it’s easy to see why. It’s accessible, affordable and quick to learn. But what happens when you supersize your board? Well, you supersize your fun of course!
Our super SUP’s are becoming ever popular as an alternative activity to the more classic ocean-based stalwarts such as surfing or coasteering. They’re great for family days out in Newquay, finding something different to do with your friends or even for just enjoying the ocean whilst meeting some cool new people! The close-quarters team work establishes a fantastic sense of camaraderie that you tend not to get with individual or solo ocean sports.
Since first introducing super stand up paddle boarding to our customers, we’ve developed and grown our lessons to make our current collection the best it can be. We’re committed to providing our customers with as much fun as is safely possible and, naturally, sometimes that means saying goodbye to some old classics.
Our ‘Exploring The Past’ series is all about remembering the journey we’ve taken to get to where we are today. As with most things in life, we are constantly evolving and bettering our options to provide the customer with the best choice. This wouldn’t be possible without our previously offered giant inflatable paddle board tours.
Today we’re taking a look back at a classic – our Heritage River Super SUP tour.

About this lesson
Our supersized super SUP puts the fun factor in our river activities! As a group, you’ll paddle together to navigate the River Gannel using team power, tides and currents. It’s easier than on the sea as there’s no swell to negotiate.
And whilst you’re paddling, you’ll hear tales of hauntings and sunken ships as our instructors share fun facts about this heritage-rich estuary.
Fun facts for history fans
And if you thought shipwrecks only occurred at sea, think again! Following your instructor’s lead, paddle downstream to the site of a shipwreck. Hear the history behind it, discover the haunted creek and hear murderous smugglers tales.
Optional games
If you’re looking for adrenaline-fuelled fun on your session, we can do that too! We’ll throw in some games such as ‘last man standing’ and a ‘capsize race.’ Are you up to the challenge?

If history, heritage and having a laugh are in your top three favourite ways to spend time, then you might be slightly disheartened to read that our Heritage River Super SUP tour is now discontinued. The bad news is that, yes, we have stopped providing this particular tour, however, the good news is that we’ve got something even better!
Now entirely ocean based, our new and improved Heritage Super SUP Tour is the perfect option for those adrenaline junkies who also happen to have a penchant for history. Learn about seafaring pirates who used to smuggle goods through Newquay, witness stunning local wildlife and enjoy views of the rugged Cornish coastline.
