Surf Coaching in Newquay with the Navy Surf Team
The Newquay Activity Centre was proud to host another Royal Navy – Royal Marines Boardriders coaching weekend in Newquay. With the expert guidance of British Champion Johnny Fryer on hand and in preparation for next year’s competitions, the Navy crew were put through their paces focusing on specific surfing techniques and maneuvers.
Surfing Tuition a Huge Success
Head surf coach Johnny commented: “It was great to meet up with some of the Navy Surf Team again. I was able to concentrate on a lot of specifics and helped the team tweak their surfing technique in order to get longer rides as well as successfully completing manoeuvres that will hopefully help them win future competitions”.
Andrew Briggs who took part in the coaching weekend commented: “Head coach Johnny Fryer is a mind-bogglingly good surfer and fantastic instructor. The centre is ideally located just a stones-throw from Fistral Beach and has secure changing areas, a hot shower and a cool area with a white-board to talk about techniques and review video footage. Johnny took heaps of GoPro footage of our attempts, whilst giving feedback and pointers on how to improve. We then got to review the footage at the end of each day and talk about what we could do to improve. Johnny was quite happy to go into technical details to make our surfing better and both me and my colleagues felt we had taken a lot away from the sessions.”
