Newquay Activity Centre is delighted to announce that its founder and fearless leader Rob Barber has been recognised by the Mayor of Newquay, Cllr Margaret North, and shortlisted for the 2023 Mayor’s Award.

Nominees were selected due to their contribution to community projects, and so we are proud as punch that our Director, Rob has been recognised for all his hard work. The winner of the Mayor’s Award will be announced on 23rd March at the Newquay Town Council Community Awards.

After the awards, Rob commented

“It was a really nice surprise to be recognised by the Mayor for my contribution to the towns community. I must credit my fantastic team at Newquay Activity Centre, Women and Waves, Outdoor Activity Instructor Academy and Bodyboard-Holidays. Particularly my step dad Nige Strawbridge who has worked hard with me on a number of initiatives. Newquay is a special place to live and we all take pride in helping the locals and guests to get the absolute best of it. Working on the community projects that we have in place is an important part of our company ethos and we have more exciting plans through spring and beyond. I’m grateful to be recognised for the time that we have put into these and thankful for the support that the council has supplied for the various endeavours what we have been working towards”.

On rare occasions throughout the year we get super low tides that recede a lot further than usual uncovering parts of this beautiful coastline that normally go unseen. Both the general public and CWT members were treated to a very special coasteer team that included Marine Awareness Officer Matt Slater and local Eco Coasteer legend Karl Fice-Thomson. Due to the extreme low tide it was predicted that an area already abundant in wildlife would prove extra special with rock pools and caves normally inaccessible a likely haven to different species.
