Newquay Activity Centre took the top prize, last year, in the Active and Sporting Experience category of the awards, which were held at the iconic Headland Hotel in Newquay.
NAC Director Rob Barber commented “We are pleased to say that through 2016 we have seen an improvements across the board through all bookings. Our new activities like the Heritage Coasteer have been well received by families and school groups. Our bodyboarding and surf coaching weekends have proved popular through the off-season, which has seen our season extended. We’re looking to expand in 2017 and will be adding further activities. It’s an exciting time for us”.
Cornwall – Adventurous all year round.
Thanks to advancements in wetsuit technology and ongoing sponsorship from Rip Curl, Newquay Activity Centre invests in first class equipment so that visitors can embrace the cold Cornish Atlantic Ocean, and enjoy the winter swell, out of season.
Over the year the centre has seen a continual increase in winter bookings. Rob says ‘autumn always brings in perfect swell and the seawater stays warm so visitors can enjoy the best waves and quieter beaches. One of our most successful charity fundraisers is on New Year’s Eve and you can’t get much colder than a wet, December day, but the sense of achievement people get when they participate in a winter ocean adventure is thrilling”
Over the last few years Newquay Activity Centre has introduced nine alternative coasteer routes, which present different environment, and levels of exploration and challenges, and provides a more invigorating activity than just cliff jumping.
Rob explains “Offering unique routes, which have been developed to appeal to different markets has given us an advantage, we cover a mix of heritage, wildlife, developing new skills and adrenaline experiences”
Rob feels incredibly lucky to be able to have turned his passion into a business and says “What makes us happy and motivated is that every day we get to give people an incredible new ocean experience in a spectacular setting. We are hoping to add another award to the trophy cabinet again this year- the team have worked really hard and truly deserve it, fingers crossed!’
