The Newquay Activity Centre works closely with local surf businesses in Newquay to help support community enterprise and local ocean industry players. Rip Curl and The Boardroom are two partners who specialise in outdoor ocean activity equipment and share our passion for surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering.
A reciprocal relationship – everyone’s a winner
As the saying goes ‘the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’ and so by working together we all benefit in the long run. E.g. if after an activity at the Newquay Activity Centre, our client is interested to pursue the sport they’ve tried, we take them down to the Boardroom or Rip Curl store to kit them out with the best equipment. Investing in the right equipment is key to getting the most from and progressing surfing, and other watersports.
In return, both stores offer discounts to our clients and display NAC signage, advertising our activities, outside their stores. It’s really that simple yet so effective in building local businesses and strong symbiotic relationships with our mutual client base.
Just this week the Rip Curl store has kindly donated a whole heap of surf goodies for the Ballistic Boardmasters Bonanza! – A free goodie bag giveaway when you book an activity with Newquay Activity Centre during the annual Boardmasters music and surf festival (9 to 13thAugust). Supporting and publicis ing such an event will have so many knock on effects for local businesses in Newquay – everyone really is a winner.
The Boardroom, Newquay
Having opened its doors earlier this year, Newquay’s recently refurbished Boardroom is a specialist retailer of surfing and bodyboarding brands and equipment, repairs and outdoor adventures. Tris merged his love of surfing with a business background to open the one-stop-shop for all surfers and bodyboarders, having studied a degree in ‘Surf Science Technology and Environmental Resource Management’ with Plymouth University.
Tris said: “I really enjoyed my studies and knew that the next step was to stay in Newquay and launch a new business, but to offer something different. Creating new partnerships has certainly helped us deliver that. The fact that you can stop by on the way to the beach, buy a new board, or get your board repaired, pick up a new t-shirt, book an advanced surf lesson and chat about the surf, with passionate surfers, is something that we are really proud of.”
It’s also home to the Bodyboard-Depot, the UK’s leading bodyboard specialist that offers the broadest selection of expert bodyboarding gear in the UK. Customers are provided with valuable and trusted advice from the Bodyboard-Depot founder and former British and European Bodyboarding number one, Rob Barber.

The Boardroom is thrilled to be supporting the Joe Way paddle for Life, fundraising event this year. Tris says: “This is such a great fundraising event and we were proud to launch this years fundraiser from our head quarters, it’s great to be a real surf shop that is part of the surfing community.”
