27 Oct School activity programs with the Newquay Activity Centre
Join us for adventures specifically designed for your school!
This month we’re featuring in School Travel Organiser Magazine as a recommended provider of outdoor adventure activities in Cornwall! It’s an exciting feature for us and here’s a little bit more about the work we do with schools from all over the UK.
We design outdoor adventure programs specifically tailored for school groups, which incorporate eco coasteering, surfing and bodyboarding with team building games, basic beach safety and environmental science lessons. Enjoyment underpins learning, so where better to get to know our native coastal habitats than from the cliffs and waves that form it.
St Dunstan’s School from Glastonbury, Somerset joined us here in Newquay earlier this year with groups from KS 3&4, to take on the challenges of surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering with our professional team of coaches. The feeling of leaping into an ocean plunge pool, of swimming with a seal or riding a wave for the first time is unlike any other. Rugged and stunning coastline surrounds us here in Newquay and it’s great to see kids thrive from the challenges they’re faced with during their time exploring the coast with us.
Newquay Activity Centre director Rob Barber comments “We have enjoyed entertaining hundreds of school groups since our inception in 1998. Our sessions deliver key messages about safety, culture and the environment with an emphasis on fun and pushing personal boundaries”.
Groups forge a coasteer path along the water’s edge under the guidance of our instructors, using safe techniques to traverse rocky outcrops, ride natural rapids and take leaps into deep water plunge pools. Keep an eye out for friendly, inquisitive seals along the way! There are caves along this stretch of coast, which played host to pirates and smugglers for hundreds of years. Coasteering is a hands-on adventure that brings the history and heritage of the area to life, whilst you’re up close and personal with the flora and fauna that lives in it.
Surfing and Bodyboarding
Newquay is the cultural surfing hub of the UK and Fistral Beach is famous for its world-class waves. Surfing and bodyboarding lessons are taught down on Fistral, just 2minutes walk from our centre and groups are given the basics of beach and sea safety whilst learning how to start riding waves!
Our Cornish Challenge is the ultimate team-building tournament which teachers seem to enjoy as much as their students. Kitted out in wetsuits and rash vests, teams use lifeguarding skills to battle it out through races and beach games designed to test their problem solving skills and ability to work together.
Our instructors lead every activity with an environmentally conscious ethos to enjoy, respect and protect. The environment is our playground, and it’s important not to degrade it for the future! Students will get hands-on experience through outdoor learning opportunities that can be tailored to support elements of the national curriculum for Key Stage 1-4.
We pride ourselves on being Trip Advisor’s number one provider of water sport activities in Newquay and have spent the last 20 years developing our activity programs. Exciting experiences are an opportunity for people to push their boundaries, build confidence and make memories, all whilst enjoying the Cornish coast to the full! With us, your group will be doing it with the guidance of our professional instructors who have years of experience and a passion for teaching. We think you’ll love it as much as we do!
Thanks STO for the feature!
