The last 2 months have been exceedingly productive and successful for the Newquay Activity Centre, we not only won Silver at the South West Tourism Awards, and maintained our 100% ranking on Tripadvisor, but we were inundated with positive media coverage.
Here is a smorgasbord of our awards, ceremonies, media snippets, quotes, articles and editorials.
South West Tourism Awards
We were over the moon to win Silver at the South West Tourism Awards for the second year running, which was based on outstanding feedback from a mystery shopper experience at the Newquay Activity Centre. The award ceremony was held in Bristol in early February, and key staff members Hannah Adams and Aaron Parsons were there to gratefully collect the award.
The Daily Telegraph
We were over-joyed to feature in the 50 Great British Holiday ideas in the Daily Telegraph. Our Heritage Coasteer and Super SUP really caught the imagination.
The Dorset Echo
Nick Horton a journalist from the Daily Telegraph, and his 3 children (aged 19, 16 and 13) enjoyed their first ever surfing lesson down at Fistral beach, and great day out in Newquay last Spring.
“My eldest son was up and running within minutes, thanks to previous surfing experience in Australia, and my youngest boy was showing huge progress, thanks to Karl’s (the instructor) enthusiasm and encouragement. Catching a wave, paddling and getting upright, they both managed to make it look so easy and effortless. My daughter seemed to enjoy the falling off bit the best and retired worn out with laughing after about an hour or so. My aching and ageing limbs kept on going for more than two hours before exhaustion caught up with me. It was a truly memorable experience and we all slept soundly that night.” Nick Horton
Chat Magazine
Chat Magazine ran a cool holiday feature titled 6 reasons to visit Newquay. And in at number 5 was the Newquay Activity Centre.
“There is no better place to master the board – and the town is packed with surfer dudes eager to teach you how. The pros at the Newquay Activity Centre will have you standing up in no time.”
Men’s Health
Among there 80 adrenaline fuelled escapades, our “Surfs SUP” very favourably…
“Supersized stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) is the best way to take in the geological beauty of the Cornish Coastline, and get a decent upper body workout in the process.”
Newquay Voice
Following our South West Tourism awards win, the Newquay Voice wrote a wonderful article about what we’re doing here in Newquay.
“Excellence is elusive. It takes creativity, commitment, investment and persistence to achieve. Standards have to be maintained for every guest, in all situations and at all hours of everyday. Achieving excellence is one thing, but maintaining it in a world of ever rising expectations is an even greater challenge” Robin Barker, Services for Tourism
Yahoo Style – Travel blogger
Ellie Ross a talented and well respected travel blogger tried her hand at one of our coasteers. She said that the experience exceeded her every expectation.

Lonely Planet
We were also lucky enough to have an intrepid travel writer from the Lonely Planet visit us for a surf lesson. By all accounts she thoroughly enjoyed her lesson and is eager to come back for more. Watch this space for her write up in the Lonely Planet guide.
As the CEO of the Newquay Activity Centre, I would like to say a huge thank you to all staff members, because without their dedication, passion, energy and most of patience with me, we couldn’t have achieved half of this. And also a huge thank you to all of our customers too, as without you none of this is possible. We hope to see you again for more action and adventure at the NAC.
