With the European Junior Championships just around the corner, the English Junior Surf Team are training hard.
They recently came together at the Newquay Activity Centre for a group training session in preparation for their upcoming competition in Agadir, Morocco this December.
Facilities at the Newquay Activity Centre
Our centre is professionally equipped for surfing, bodyboarding and coasteering at all levels. Located just above Fistral beach, it’s a convenient base for the English squad to train in some of the UK’s best waves.
“We have a very strong team,” said Team Manager, Jessica Tuckman. I think we could have multiple podium spots.”
Medal hopes for the English Junior Squad
Each member of the squad was either a winner or a finalist in the recent English Surfing National Championships, with a few wildcard entries joining the team based on their results and performance.
Tuckman has especially high hopes for 13-year-old Ellie Turner, who joined the team as the Under 16’s English Surfing Champion.
“Ellie is a strong gold potential, she has recently achieved fourth place in the world!”
Turner’s steady rise through British surfing lead her to the ISA World Junior Championships this summer, where she finished fourth in the Under 16’s finals. Having also added the 2016 European Grom Search title to her list of achievements this year, Turner will be a fierce competitor.
Training at the Newquay Activity Centre
“It was hugely important for the surfers and bodyboarders to make training and develop a good team attitude,” added Tuckman. “Companies such as yourself are a great support. Newquay Activity Centre offering the use of a facility is a big plus, there are a few local businesses that offer this kind of help.”
The team has our full support and as they continue their preparations for the fast approaching European Junior Championships!
