Newquay Activity Centre hosted Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) for a series of water activities including Coasteering and Super Stand Up Paddleboarding in spring.

CACT is the charitable arm of Charlton Athletic Football Club and it works with local communities to help individuals improve their lives. Newquay Activity Supports the trust with discounted experiences to help the participants during their recovery process from psychosis.

Newquay Activity Centre has worked with CACT for over 8 years, welcoming their groups to the coast to help individuals to increase their confidence, build self-belief and enjoy themselves in a new coastal environment.

Terry Peart, Mental Health manager at CACT said “Our clients are recovering from the first episode of psychosis after experiencing a crisis in their lives and the ocean activities that Newquay Activity Centre provide can help boost their recovery. The team of outdoor activity instructors really help our clients to step out of their comfort zone and really enjoy a new ocean activity that they would not have tried before. The Cornish coast is a great place to bring clients to enjoy the outdoors and the ocean”

At the centre, the group were kitted out in wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets before setting off on a guided coasteering adventure, in which they explored coves and hidden caves whilst also rock climbing across the craggy Cornish coastline.

After being instructed by our experienced coasteering guides before the activity began, participants worked as a team to enter the water, learn new skills and begin the coasteering route. The tour culminated in thrilling leaps from ledges into the deep water plunge pools, they explored and identified the local wildlife as they made their way along the base of the cliff.

The tour incorporated the use of the Super Stand up Paddle board making an ideal platform to jump or swim from and to further explore the marine life and access hidden caves and coves.

Regardless of your skill level or comfort level in outdoor settings, our qualified instructors will support groups of all sizes in pushing their own personal boundaries while they take in our breathtaking coastline.

Newquay Activity Centre Director, Rob Barber says “Being in and near the ocean provides a lots of physical and psychological health benefits that we can all enjoy. The ocean also has therapeutic properties, and the ebb and flow of the tide and waves can be relaxing and refreshing. It’s been great to welcome the CACT group to the Cornish coast again and to enjoy some ocean activities with us. The adventures, exploration, and challenges that our activities present to clients can really help them with their own personal growth. And we also we make it fun and supportive, so everyone enjoys it. With plenty of sunshine and waves, time spent in the sea really helps to boost your overall wellbeing”
