As part of our continued relationship with Cornwall 365, Newquay Activity Centre’s director Rob Barber recently featured as their cultural ‘Ambassador of the Month.’
Following on from our involvement in Cornwall 365’s Cultural Canapes event, Rob has been recognised for promoting Cornwall’s heritage and culture. Through Cornwall 365, he worked with a local historian to gain further insight into the local history of Newquay. This input helped inform Newquay Activity Centre’s activities including our Heritage Coasteer, Heritage SUP and Kayak tours.
Rob’s also ideally placed as an ambassador. Having grown up in Newquay, Rob bodyboarded as soon as he could swim. After chasing swells for over 30 years, and carving out a career as a professional bodyboarder, he set up Europe’s first bodyboarding school in 1997. After adding coasteering, stand up paddle boarding and other activities into the mix including kayaking – voila! Newquay Activity School officially started business!
Rob also runs Bodyboard Holidays – the first company of its kind when he created it in 2003. Ideal for bodyboarders of all abilities, guests can join share Rob’s passion for bodyboarding and chase waves at some incredible locations including Portugal, Bali, Morocco and California.
When he’s not chasing swells or working in the office, Rob loves to spend time with his family and friends in and out of the water.
