The last few months has given all of us the time to re-evaluate and reconsider what’s important to us. For most that’s spending time with family and friends, being able to step outside and walk the coast path and of course take the plunge into the Atlantic Ocean with a daily surf.
Now is the time we put that into focus. Here are 5 post lockdown activities to help you reconnect with family, friends and the ocean this summer.
Family Surf Lesson
Our Family Surf Lessons tick all the boxes; they’re fun for all, memorable, active (a sure way to get them off their mobile phones and active), exhilarating, safe and comparatively low cost when compared to other family outings in the South West. Our Newquay surfing school’s family surf lessons offer an experience that will be remembered forever.
What will you learn?
At the Newquay Activity Centre’s Cornwall surfing schools, we offer two-hour private surfing lessons designed specifically with families in mind, where you’ll learn the fundamentals of surfing, ocean awareness, beach safety, surfing equipment and surfing terminology. We provide the perfect balance of fun, education and safety.
What’s more, imagine how cool you’ll become when your children return to school with tall tales of surfing adventures!

Family Coasteer
Coasteering is the perfect family activity for getting kids active outdoors and learning about our coastlines. Push boundaries in a supportive environment under the expert guidance of our professional instructors, whilst exploring our risk assessed and kid-friendly coasteer routes. Your family can choose the intensity of the experience.
You’ll get kitted out in a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet in our on-site changing rooms with storage for all your belongings, before negotiating a route recommended by one of the most highly qualified coasteering leaders in Cornwall. For family activity holidays in Newquay our low tide coasteering route is highly popular as you can access every aspect of the coastline including the old smugglers caves.

Gannel SUP tour
The Gannel Estuary feels a world away from the popular sprawl of Newquay, but it borders the town just South of Towan Headland. This sheltered stretch of water flows according to the tide, revealing sweeping sands and blue lagoons once receding back to the sea. With a rich history and heritage, our Gannel SUP adventure makes for a tranquil alternative to the waves of Newquay’s beaches.
During the adventure, you’ll flow with the tide beneath overhanging trees, past magnificent sand dune systems and through clear water pools. It’s a peaceful setting full of history and wildlife.

Snorkel and Kayak Tour
The sheltered stretch of coastline known as the Gazzle is just moments from our HQ on Towan Beach. It was shaped by storms and smugglers and now plays host to an array of native wildlife. But peer beneath the water’s surface and discover a whole new world.
Once moored up in a sheltered tidal inlet, you will pop on your masks and discover the underwater marine ecosystem. Seals, dolphins, lobsters and starfish; this marine conservation area is the place to see native wildlife of all sizes. It’s also one of the UK’s few designated seahorse-breeding areas.
Our exclusive snorkel kayak tours are a luxurious way to appreciate the scenery and get a glimpse into the watery world below. Whether you’re nature enthusiasts, curious about our coastline’s marine environment, or just looking for an experience that is completely different, then this is the perfect adventure for you.

Private Super SUP
Imagine you, your closest friends and one of our animated guides navigating a Super Stand Up Paddle Board around Newquay’s caves, caverns and crags.
Exploring Newquay’s beautiful coastline, experiencing the magic of Fistral Beach and mooring up in Newquay Bay for a host of hilariously funny games (King of the SUP, Drunken Sailor and SUP Sumo) …well that’s exactly what we have in store for you on our Private Super stand up paddle board tours.
On meeting your experienced instructor, he’ll kit you out in a top of the range toasty warm wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and pro paddle, and lead you down to the coast to launch the giant sized stand up paddle board. After a brief beach safety talk and fundamental paddle techniques, you’ll be ready to navigate this beast through the waters and out around the magnificent Towan headland.
Along the way, you’ll discover secret coves home to our resident seal colony, paddle through ancient smugglers caves, learn to identify a myriad of marine and birdlife, practice paddle strokes, enjoy a workout like no other and negotiate radical swell on your return to shore. We guarantee endless giggles on our super stand up paddle board.
Whatever you decide to do post lockdown, do it at the beach with Newquay Activity Centre.
