LEARN TO STAND UP PADDLE BOARD!
With the correct safety advice and instruction, stand up paddle boarding is quick and easy to learn. First, our instructors teach you the basics, then the tour sets off with a unique and informative paddle around Newquay’s most historically-rich coastline. Many of our SUP tour groups begin paddling on their knees, advancing to a stand up position when they feel safe and confident to do so.
Our Heritage SUP Tour has been designed to teach you many core skills including how to launch and land, stand up and balance, hold your paddle, perform basic strokes and how to make directional changes.
There is absolutely no pressure on our Heritage SUP Tour; feel free to enjoy the session from the comfort of your board, or give standing up a go – it’s entirely up to you! Our experienced instructors are there to help whatever your skill level may be.
HISTORY AND HERITAGE
Despite being sheltered, Towan Head’s caves and crags are notoriously named. Dead Man’s cove and Witches Peak earned their titles for a reason and it’s these stories that bring a new dimension to our dramatic local history. With tales of smugglers, lifeboat rescues and shipwrecks, ours is a coastline steeped in fascinating maritime history!
From the warmth of our on-site heated changing rooms, we will kit you out with a top quality wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. Once you’re armed with a paddle and a board, you’ll follow your instructor down to Towan beach where the Heritage SUP Tour will begin. In keeping with the heritage theme of your tour, you will paddle in the hidden footsteps of tea, brandy and gin-smuggling pirates.
We launch and land from two of Newquay’s lush, semi-secret coves. The start to experience is an adventure, as we walk down a rock path to the water’s edge. It’s worth it as the scenery is breath taking, there is some incredible coastal wildlife in the area, and you really are experiencing the best of Newquay’s coastal fringe. We take the walk down to the water slowly, the paddleboards will be waiting in the cove for you.
STUNNING SCENERY
The deck of your stand up paddleboard is the perfect way to view our coastlines! Not only is the scenery stunning, you’ll get close enough to touch the cliffs and take charge of the route for the ultimate tailored adventure. It’ll be hard to believe the dramatic tales shared by our instructors.
NATIVE WILDLIFE
An abundance of native flora and fauna call this coastline home. You’re guaranteed to see a range of local wildlife that inhabit Newquay’s marine environment. Keep your eyes peeled for nosey seals popping up beside your board!
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS EXTREME WEATHER?
We are super fortunate to operate many of our activities in the shelter of Towan beach. We choose the tide and weather times that deliver the very best conditions for Stand Up Paddleboard Tours. However, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and sometimes she may have different plans for us. We always check the forecasted conditions but if the wind or swell picks up unexpectedly, we will move your session on to our Super SUPs, this will ensure you still cover the same route and session content but will be on a craft that is more resilient against the conditions. Alternatively, we may offer a different time or location for your tour.
Over 95% of our tours go ahead unaffected by the weather but, in the unlikely event that this does happen, we have excellent back-up options for you to choose from. We appreciate your understanding.
