Teeming with wildlife and sashaying with flicks of diamond blue water, the Gannel Estuary is a stand up paddle boarders dream. The Gannel is positioned just south of Towan Headland where it meets the sweeping sands of Crantock Beach. Our launch location enjoys a sheltered spot tucked away from the buzz of Newquay’s popular beaches.
However, we’re not ones for peace and quiet! We’re masters at whipping up adrenaline levels in even the most serene of places. Weapon of choice? Our awesome Super SUP! Holding up to eight people, our supersized stand up paddle board provides hilariously fun adventures and we have a whole fleet of them! The Gannel estuary is a perfect playground for groups wanting to mix a dose of action with stunning views.
HOW IT WORKS
We’ll get you kitted out in all the gear – wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets – and fill you in on safety procedures and basic techniques. Then it’s time for action.
Our River Super SUP Tour has been designed to teach you many core skills including how to launch and land, stand up and balance, hold your paddle, perform basic strokes and how to make directional changes as a team. It’s natural to begin your River Super SUP Tour kneeling down on the board, many people do. Our coaches are there to guide you step-by-step, helping you along the way. Within no time you will confidently progress from kneeling to standing; by the end of the lesson you’ll be a pro!
We’ll launch our humongous SUP from the banks of the Gannel and work as a group to explore the estuary with its overhanging trees and abundance of wildlife. With no swell to negotiate, it’s easy peasy so it won’t be long till we can pick up the pace and explore every nook, creek and cranny of this amazing habitat.
We’ll share tales of smugglers and fishermen to bring the history and heritage to life. Oh, and if you like games, we can throw in some of those too!

OUR EXPERTISE
While well known big wave surfers like Jamie O’Brien made the SUPsquatch or Monster SUP famous by catching huge waves in Hawaii, it was NAC who pioneered the craft for touring.
There was no such thing as a Super SUP tour, it was NAC’s brainchild. We even came up with the name Super SUP!
After launching the company in 1996, we have catered for over 200,000 guest experiences. It is guest feedback that helped us to create our Super SUP tours, Super SUP Coasteers, Super SUP snorkel tours and other bespoke experiences. We’re simply re creating what we have spent our lives doing on the Newquay coastline. Director Rob Barber shared his experiences of cave exploration, lagoon snorkelling and sluice ride paddling and the thousands of 5 star trip advisors have been the result.
Having pioneered the development of the Super SUP tour as an activity, and introducing it to the coastal activity market, we have now, using a hybrid of our coasteering and paddlesports training programmes successfully built a module which is delivered within our 3 month Outdoor Instructor Academy qualification.
