Adventure Training
With the latest addition to Newquay Activity Centre’s Military Adventure Training scheme, our soldier-specific SUP Lessons will see your troops navigating the dark caverns and natural rapids along Newquay’s rugged coastline. You will learn how to identify safe launching locations before setting off and knee paddling your way towards confidence. Once you feel comfortable, you will then learn how to put the ‘stand up’ in stand up paddleboarding; that’s where the fun begins!
We launch and land from two of Newquay’s lush, semi-secret coves. The start to experience is an adventure, as we walk down a rock path to the water’s edge. It’s worth it as the scenery is breath taking, there is some incredible coastal wildlife in the area, and you really are experiencing the best of Newquay’s coastal fringe. We take the walk down to the water slowly, the paddleboards will be waiting in the cove for you.
PERFECTING YOUR PADDLE
Once your troops have mastered the art of staying stable on the ocean, our industry-leading SUP instructors will then teach them the best paddle techniques to use, how to change direction and how to navigate their way around the coastline.
COASTAL CHALLENGES
With the basics mastered, the next set of challenges begin with independent tasks in and around caves, caverns and clifflines. Newquay’s coast is a hotspot for biodiversity and historical legend; one side open to the powerful Atlantic swell and the other comprising sheltered smugglers caves. Our Military SUP Lessons should be part of any Adventurous Training regime; they’re guaranteed to physically test your team in a fun-yet-challenging and unfamiliar environment. Newquay Activity Centre is proud to welcome the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force to take part in our purpose-designed AT courses. Our experiences on the Cornish coast are ideal for filling gaps in training whilst boosting camaraderie between troops.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS EXTREME WEATHER?
We are super fortunate to operate many of our activities in the shelter of Towan beach. We choose the tide and weather times that deliver the very best conditions for Stand Up Paddleboard Tours. However, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and sometimes she may have different plans for us. We always check the forecasted conditions but if the wind or swell picks up unexpectedly, we will move your session on to our Super SUPs, this will ensure you still cover the same route and session content but will be on a craft that is more resilient against the conditions. Alternatively, we may offer a different time or location for your tour.
Over 95% of our tours go ahead unaffected by the weather but, in the unlikely event that this does happen, we have excellent back-up options for you to choose from. We appreciate your understanding.
